Chandigarh take lead, Punjab fall behind
Chandigarh, Nov. 10 -- The second day of Ranji Trophy elite group match between Chandigarh and Punjab at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium saw bowlers dominate proceedings from both the teams.
As many as 14 wickets tumbled on the day leaving the contest finely poised, with Chandigarh holding a strong advantage.
Resuming the day at 71/3, Punjab struggled to find rhythm against Chandigarh's disciplined bowling unit. The pace-spin combination of Jagjit Singh Sandhu (2/37) and Vishu (3/15), complemented by Nishunk Birla's four-wicket burst (4/18), restricted Punjab to 142 all out and local lads maintained the lead of 31 runs. Anmol Malhotra (33) and skipper Uday Saharan (31) emerged as the only top scorers.
Chandigarh's second innings began on a dismal note as opponent Ayush Goyal continued his fine form, striking twice early to remove openers Shivam Bhambri (1) and Arjun Azad (0). However, Manan Vohra (32), Nikhil Thakur (32) and Ankit Kaushik (38) steadied the innings before late wickets from Harpreet Brar (3/47) tilted the balance again. Chandigarh closed the day at 168 for 7, leading Punjab by 199 runs....
