CBM urges MC to extend property tax rebate deadline
Chandigarh, May 24 -- Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM), the apex body of traders in the city, has appealed to the municipal corporation and UT administration to extend the rebate period for depositing property tax till July 31, 2025, after applying all concessions notified about property rates and garbage collection rates.
The appeal comes a day after municipal commissioner Amit Kumar urged the city residents to deposit their property tax/service charges for the assessment year 2025-26 by May 31 to enjoy rebates and to avoid penalties. He made it clear that no further extension of the rebate period will be granted.
CBM president Sanjiv Chadha has appealed to the municipal commissioner and mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla to immediately extend the deadline for deposit of property tax. He stated that markets remained disturbed due to the Pahalgam terror act and subsequent operation by central forces and frequent changes in property tax rates, causing delays and issuance of faulty bills due to fluctuation in rates under protest by the shopkeepers.
Even garbage rates had been wrongly calculated in most of the markets of the city, which are yet to be fully rectified so that shopkeepers could deposit rectified bills only....
