New Delhi, Jan. 7 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and popular Tamil actor Vijay to appear before it on January 12 for questioning in connection with the Karur stampede case, officials said on Tuesday. The federal agency has already questioned several office bearers of the TVK in its probe. CBI has now decided to call Vijay in connection with the case, following which it may take a call on filing a charge sheet in the September 27, 2025 incident, the officials added. At least 41 people died and more than 60 others were injured in the stampede that occurred during a political meeting addressed by Vijay on September 27 last year in Karur, Tamil Nadu. CBI took over the probe into the case from a special investigation team (SIT) of the state police on October 26 following a Supreme Court order on a petition filed by the TVK for an independent probe. The court also set up a three-member supervisory committee headed by former apex court judge Ajay Rastogi to monitor the CBI probe. The top court had said the Karur stampede has left an imprint in the minds of citizens throughout the country. The investigators have already visited the stampede site couple of times, collected documentary and digital evidence besides questioning over 200 people so far. htc...
