Carrying flowers was not intentional, clarifies Navya; requests Aussie authorities for fine waiver
India, Sept. 11 -- Actor Navya Nair recently found herself in trouble at Melbourne Airport after being fined AUD 1,980 (Rs.1.14 lakh) for carrying an undeclared jasmine gajra. The actor, who is known for Malayalam films such as Janaki Jaane (2023), and Oruthee (2022), has since contacted Australian authorities, requesting a waiver of the fine. "I have 28 days to make the payment," she says, adding, "They told me I could send an email explaining everything, so I did that the same night, and now I'm just waiting for a reply."
The actor also points out that clearer communication around customs rules could help travellers avoid similar situations. "My issue has become very popular with all the Malayalis here, so they will be more alert in doing things. These rules are quite strict and very rigid. So it's not very easy," she says, adding, "Every time they cannot have it in the declaration form, it's a very small paper. So, it can be explained in many other, better ways."...
