Brother axed to death, body dismembered over property dispute
Bhopal, April 19 -- A 32-year-old man was arrested by Mandla police in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday for allegedly killing his younger brother and disposing of the body in the septic tank of their house, police said.
According to police, a dismembered body, identified as Ashish Sahu, 28, wrapped in cloth was recovered on Friday after a foul odour was reported from the tank. The accused, identified as Ghanshyam Sahu, was arrested and an axe used in the crime was also seized.
Mandla additional superintendent of police Shivkumar Verma said, "Ashish had been missing since April 11. His father, Munnalal Sahu, returned home on April 12 to find Ghanshyam claiming Ashish was missing. The family searched for him and filed a missing person report on April 15.
Unaware of the crime, Munnalal and Ghanshyam continued searching until the discovery of the body in the septic tank. The body parts were identified by the family based on clothing and other markers. The forensic experts reached the spot and collected evidence from the scene.
Investigations revealed a property dispute between the brothers over a purchase of a tractor, police said. During questioning, Ghanshyam confessed to the murder, citing the dispute as his motive. "Ghanshyam said he killed his brother by hitting him multiple times with an axe inside the house and later cut the parts to dispose of in the tank," said Verma.
