Bootlegger hits cop with car at Mohali naka, 30 cases of 'UT' liquor seized
Mohali, Nov. 14 -- A liquor smuggler tried to run over a police officer with his vehicle at a checkpoint near the Phase 6 bus stand around 4.30 am on Thursday.
In his haste to escape, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed it into an electricity pole, said police. While the police officers rushed to help the injured cop, head constable Rashvinder Singh, the smuggler managed to flee the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle.
On searching the car, police recovered 30 cases of illicit liquor, which were meant for sale in Chandigarh. The car and the liquor were seized.
Police had received credible information that liquor from Chandigarh was being transported illegally into Punjab. Acting on this input, a team, led by ASI Jagatpal, set up a naka in front of the Phase 6 bus stand.
"Around 4.30 am, a car approached from the Chandigarh side. When head constable Rashvinder signalled it to stop, the driver accelerated and hit him before trying to flee," said the ASI. The absconding car driver was booked for attempt to murder and liquor smuggling at the Phase 1 station.HTC...
