Kolkata, Nov. 23 -- A booth level officer (BLO) engaged in the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal allegedly died by suicide in Nadia district on Saturday due to the work pressure linked to the ongoing exercise, officials said. The 53-year-old victim, who also worked as a para-teacher in a school in Nadia, was found dead at her residence in Krishnanagar by her family members, police said. This is the second such incident to be reported in the eastern state since the SIR exercise began earlier this month. Expressing grief over the incident, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on X: "Profoundly shocked to know of the death of yet another BLO, a lady para- teacher, who has committed suicide at Krishnanagar today. BLO... has blamed ECI in her suicide note before committing suicide at her residence today." The CM also attached a copy of the alleged suicide note, written in Bengali, where the victimpurportedly blamed his job, saying "they forced me to die" and that "ECI is responsible for my fate". Krishnanagar SP Amarnath K said: "We received the information that the woman died by suicide in the early hours of Saturday. We have sent the body for autopsy. The suicide note has been seized. An unnatural death case has been registered. The family hasn't lodged any complaint against anyone till Saturday night." An official at the state CEO's office said that the district magistrate of Nadia has been asked to submit a report on the death. The death comes days after an anganwadi worker, who was engaged as BLO, allegedly died by suicide in Jalpaiguri, with her family claiming that she took the extreme step because of the work pressure linked to the SIR....
