BJP starts screening nominees for mayoral polls
Chandigarh, Dec. 29 -- Ahead of the mayoral polls to be held in January, Chandigarh state BJP in-charge MP Atul Garg visited the party office in Sector 33 on Sunday, where he met the party's councillors contending to be nominated for the post individually and discussed their candidature.
People privy to the matter said more than half a dozen councillors are interested to be nominated as the party' s candidate for the upcoming polls. Councillors Saurabh Joshi and Maheshinder Singh Sidhu are among the front runners. Former mayors Anoop Gupta and Sarabjit Kaur, and current mayor Harpreet Babla too have expressed interest to be nominated again by the BJP. Other councillors vying to be nominated by the party include Dulip Sharma, Kanwarjit Singh Rana, Rajinder Sharma. As per party officials, Garg will submit his report to the party high command after speaking with all the contenders. After receiving high command's approval, BJP will announce its candidate as soon as the notification for the polls is issued.htc...
