BJP MLC under fire for derogatory remarks
Bengaluru, May 27 -- A row erupted in Karnataka after BJP member of legislative council (MLC) N Ravikumar made a provocative remark targeting Kalaburagi deputy commissioner. While addressing a public gathering in Kalaburagi on May 24, he asked whether IAS officer, Fouzia Taranum, was from Pakistan.
He made the comment in the context of a recent incident at Chittapur, where LoP in the legislative council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy was allegedly prevented from leaving a government guest house by a group of Congress supporters. The protest was staged after Narayanaswamy allegedly made derogatory remarks against state minister Priyank Kharge.
Questioning the role of local administration during that stir, Ravikumar said, "I don't know whether the Kalaburagi DC has come from Pakistan or is an IAS officer here."
Slamming the MLC's comments, Kharge said, "Just look at BJP leaders across the country and the kind of speeches they make... To make such accusations against a respected officer is unacceptable."
The IAS Association also condemned the remarks. "Such personal attacks undermine the integrity of public service and are wholly unacceptable," it said....
