Dehradun, May 11 -- Uttarakhand BJP's Mahila Morcha on Sunday launched protests in different parts of the state against the Congress for allegedly "trying to malign the BJP through conspiracies" after Champawat police claimed that no sexual assault had taken place with a 16-year-old girl in a case where a ruling party leader was initially named as an accused. Addressing a press conference in Nainital, Uttarakhand BJP Mahila Morcha president Ruchi Bhatt said the people of Uttarakhand would no longer tolerate the Congress' "cheap politics and conspiracy" aimed at hurting public sentiments and tarnishing the image of the state. She said the BJP would strongly and democratically counter every conspiracy against the dignity of Devbhoomi, development and public interest. BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said the Congress' attempt to run an agenda against the BJP by scripting a "false rape narrative" has collapsed and termed it a major setback for the opposition party. He said no BJP member was involved in the conspiracy nor had any party worker gone to jail in connection with the case. Chauhan added that Kamal Rawat, who was jailed on charges of conspiracy in the Champawat case, had no connection with the BJP. "He was expelled from the party in December 2022 due to suspicious activities and has since been active in the Congress. Everyone knows he remains associated with senior Congress leaders," he said, adding that police investigation identified him as the main conspirator. State Congress vice-president Suryakant Dhasmana rejected the BJP's allegations and said that the Congress has no link to the Champawat case. "The BJP has a habit of indulging in conspiracies, not the Congress," Dhasmana said. "We have no link to the Champawat case. Both the alleged accused and the alleged conspirator are associated with the BJP. They claim Kamal Rawat is associated with us, let them show any picture or evidence to support the claim," he added....
