Bizman shot dead in Bihar; Oppn targets govt over law, order
PATNA, July 6 -- Prominent Bihar-based businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead by a bike-borne unidentified assailant outside his residence in Patna, police said on Saturday, with the incident coming around seven years after miscreants had gunned down his son in Hajipur.
The incident took place near the gate of Khemka's house in the posh Gandhi Maidan locality around 11.40 pm on Friday, when he drove back home from the Bankipur Club, around 1.4km away, and was waiting in his car for the guard to open the main gate, police said.
An assailant wearing a helmet walked up to the businessman's car and shot him from a point-blank range, before fleeing in a scooty, police said.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar convened a meeting on Saturday to review the law-and-order situation in the state.
"The CM emphasised that the rule of law is top priority for the NDA government, and warned of strict action against police personnel in case of negligence," a statement from CMO said. Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar also attended the meeting chaired by the CM.
Khemka was one of the most prominent businessmen in Patna and owned the city-based Magadh Hospital, several pharmacies, factories and a petrol pump. On December 20, 2018, his son Gunjan Khemka was shot dead by miscreants in a similar manner at the main gate of his factory in Hajipur.
Police officers claimed that an old enmity cannot be ruled out in Khemka's murder, drawing parallel between the murders of the businessman and his son. htc...
