Bhavan Vidyalaya organises 1st inter-school debate c'ship
Chandigarh, May 4 -- Bhavan Vidyalaya organised its first inter-school debating championship for students across tricity on May 2, 2026 in the school campus. 'Bhavan's Parliamentary Debate Championship 2026', conducted in the internationally recognised World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC) format, aimed to establish a premier intellectual and debating hub in tricity.
The opening ceremony was inaugurated by the chief guest Madhukar Malhotra, honorary secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chandigarh Kendra, welcomed by Vineeta Arora, director (education) cum senior principal, and Suparna Bansal, vice principal, senior school.
The event attracted enthusiastic participation from over 229 students, forming 56 teams, representing 28 schools across the tricity. The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a powerful medley by the school choir. This was succeeded by a powerpoint presentation outlining the event's proceedings, rules, and regulations. Madhukar Malhotra, in his address, emphasised the need for future leaders to debate, defend, and dominate, urging them to step out of their comfort zones to bring about a change. Vineeta Arora highlighted the significance of such events in equipping students for the responsibilities awaiting them in the future. Teams were divided into two independent categories, junior (Classes 6-8) and senior (Classes 9-12). The motions on diverse perspectives aimed to broaden their understanding of complex issues.
The event culminated in a prize distribution ceremony, where the winners were felicitated. The results for the Bhavan's parliamentary debate championship, junior team awards champions are from team Vibranium Kashvi Ratra, Mannat Sharma and Namya Verma (Gurukul Global School). First Runner-up winner team The Frontliners include Veronika Dhamija, Sharanya Singh, Aakriti Garg, Avnoor Kaur and Aadya Gupta (Dikshant Global School) and second runner-up was team Vitanda including Poshita Ira Java, Kaustubh Rai, Agastya Bhagat, Pahul Singh and Anmay Shukla (Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh) The senior team awards champions team Debate 101 includes Raihat Kaur Brar, Sharanya and Srishti (Vivek High School Chandigarh). The first runner-up was team Kimetsu which inclused Nishthaa, Shireen Vaid and Demira Sharma (Doon International School Mohali Sector 69)
Best Speaker for junior category was awarded to Dhwani Bhatia of Learning Paths School Mohali and for senior category, Ragnya Thakur of Vivek High School Chandigarh...
