Bengal mandates state anthem as prayer song across schools
Kolkata, Nov. 8 -- Amid nationwide celebrations on Friday marking the 150th anniversary of the National Song Vande Mataram, the West Bengal government has ordered schools in the state to have the Rabindranath Tagore-written 'Banglar Mati Banglar Jol' as the prayer song.
West Bengal education minister Bratya Basu said the decision to make Banglar Mati, Banglar Jol mandatory along with the national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana', also written by Tagore, at morning assemblies in all state-run and state-sponsored schools was approved by the state chief minister, Mamata Banerjee. htc...
