Bathinda court rejects sacked cop's bail plea
BATHINDA, July 8 -- A Bathinda district court on Monday dismissed a bail petition of the sacked Punjab Police senior constable Amandeep Kaur, an accused in a disproportionate assets case. Kaur was arrested with 17.7 gm of heroin from Badal Road in Bathinda city on April 2 while driving in a black SUV.
Later, she was arrested by the VB on May 26 for allegedly amassing wealth beyond her known sources of income.
The additional sessions judge, Rajiv Kalra, heard the arguments and rejected the application on the plea of the vigilance bureau (VB).
VB sleuths could not question her even once in the corruption case as she had taken ill and was hospitalised when the court sent her to VB custody on May 27.
On May 28, she was sent to the Bathinda central prison after a medical examination by the urologists at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda. During the court hearing on Monday, the VB did not seek Amandeep's custody for interrogation. The probe so far has revealed that Amandeep had a total income of Rs.1.08 crore during the check period while her expenditure stood at Rs.1.39 crore, which is Rs.31 lakh more than her known sources of income.
The spokesperson added that based on these findings, the VB registered a case under Sections 13(1) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station, Bathinda range....
