Mohali, May 16 -- Despite objections from its audit department, the Mohali municipal corporation (MC) has been paying 3 lakh per month to Gouri Shankar Sewa Dal, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) running the city's lone gaushala in Industrial area Phase 1 for the past one year.

While the department's objection says that the NGO did not quote any rate when the tenders were floated, the civic body has been paying it 13 per animal per day.

The NGO had assured the MC of running the gaushala free-ofcost and managing expenses from selling the cow dung, milk and donations. However, within three months of operation, the NGO had told the MC that it was difficult for them to manage due to fund crunch, and demanded 27 per animal per day.
