Amritsar, Feb. 13 -- Fazilka senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh on Thursday appeared before Akal Takht jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj to seek "forgiveness" over the arrest of two men in connection with some case from the premises of the Golden Temple on January 30. The SSP met the jathedar at the secretariat, where he offered his clarification and tendered an apology for the "lapse". Speaking to the media, Giani Gargaj said, "Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib gives the message of universal brotherhood to the world. Its four doors are open to all. Devotees from across the globe visit the holy shrine with deep reverence and faith." The jathedar stated that SSP Gurmeet Singh presented his version of events. He has also been asked to submit the same in writing. He added that the SSP acknowledged that the manner in which five police personnel from his district entered the parkarma of Sri Darbar Sahib recently was inappropriate and should not have occurred. He said the police have assured that such a mistake would not be repeated in the future. The jathedar emphasised that nothing should ever happen at Sri Darbar Sahib that disturbs the sanctity of the environment or hurts the religious sentiments of the sangat. Chaos erupted in the parikrama of Golden Temple on January 30 after cops in civvies turned up to apprehend a man and his son over some case related to Arms Act.
