Chandigarh, Nov. 24 -- At 7.9degC, Chandigarh recorded its lowest minimum temperature so far this season. As per Meteorologists, an additional drop of around 2degC over the next five to seven days is likely, with cold northwesterly winds and persistent dry conditions dominating the region. According to the long-term temperature data (2012-2025), Chandigarh has consistently been slipping into single-digit minimum temperatures in November, and this year's early decline places 2025 among the colder Novembers recorded in recent years. While the all-time minimum for November stands at 7.0degC (recorded in 2014), this year's 7.9degC places 2025 among the colder Novembers since 2017. MeT officials say the continuing dry spell is playing a significant role in intensifying night-time cooling. "The minimum temperatures are expected to drop by two degrees in the coming week as mainly dry conditions will prevail over the region. Clear skies at night are allowing heat to escape faster, which is typical of late November," said Surinder Paul, director, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh. The data shows that 2024 recorded a minimum of 8.7degC in November, 2023 saw a low of 10.3degC, warmer compared to most years. The year 2020 saw a minimum of 8.1degC, while 2019 touched 10.4degC, making it one of the warmest Novembers....
