Chandigarh, Dec. 4 -- With North Westerly winds blowing in the region, cold wave conditions started in the city, turning it colder than nearby hill stations such as Shimla and Dharamshala. As per India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, the minimum temperature in Chandigarh dropped from 6.6degC on Tuesday to 5.4degC on Wednesday, the lowest that it has gone this season and 5.2 degrees below normal. Shimla recorded a minimum of 6degC while Dharamshala recorded 6.8degC. As per the IMD, for this region, a cold wave is declared when the minimum temperature is below 10degC and falls between 4.5 to 6.4 degrees below normal. IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul the cold wave is due to the North Westerly winds blowing in the region since the second half of November.
