Anurag Kashyap blasts AI-led film

he debate over AI's encroachment into artistic creation hit a fever pitch on Tuesday evening when filmmaker Anurag Kashyap lambasted producer Vijay Subramaniam for backing Chiranjeevi Hanuman - The Eternal.
Announced by Abundantia Entertainment and Historyverse, the film is being marketed as "Made in AI, Made in India" with a release slated for Hanuman Jayanti 2026. Anurag took to social media, sharing a screenshot of the film's announcement poster and specifically highlighting Vijay Subramaniam's name. "Congratulations @vijaysubramaniam84. Here is the man heading the @lifeatcollectiveartistsnetwork that represents artists, writer, directors, now producing a film made by AI. So much for looking after and representing the interests of creators."
Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane also questioned the future of human creatives: "And so it begins... Who TF needs writers and directors when its 'Made in AI'."
In response, Subramaniam defended his film: "We have the extraordinary opportunity to reimagine cultural storytelling for an audience that cherishes both tradition and innovation. Our approach is rooted in authenticity and cultural stewardship, ensuring complete transparency about the role of AI in the creative process."
Anurag's outburst follows growing resistance to AI using storytelling. Earlier this month, Eros International re-released the Tamil-dubbed version of the 2013 cult hit Raanjhanaa, retitled Ambikapathy, replacing its tragic climax with a digitally generated "happy ending".
