ANTF, BSF recover 12kg heroin from fields in Amritsar village
AMRITSAR, Dec. 24 -- The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), border range, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), recovered 12.050 kg heroin from Daleke village in Lopoke, Amritsar, said director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
The DGP said that during a routine patrolling, information was received regarding the presence of a drone in agricultural fields in the area of Daleke village.
Acting promptly, joint teams from the ANTF under the supervision of SP Gurpreet Singh carried out a search of the suspected location, he said, adding that as a result of the coordinated effort, a consignment of heroin was recovered from the fields near Daleke. The total weight of the recovered contraband, including packaging material, was 12.050 kg
Sharing details, superintendent of ANTF Gurpreet Singh said preliminary investigation is underway to trace backward and forward linkages in this case using technical evidence and human intelligence. Suspects, who were supposed to retrieve the consignment have been identified and raids are being conducted to nab them, he said.
A case under Sections 21 (c) and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the ANTF police station.
Under the "Yudh Nashian Virudh" campaign, the Punjab police on Tuesday, marking the 297th day of the initiative, conducted raids at 321 locations across the state. The operations led to the arrest of 97 drug smugglers and the registration of 74 FIRs. With these latest figures, the total number of drug smugglers arrested so far has reached 41,449. Tuesday's raids resulted in the recovery of 12.8 kg of heroin, 3,667 intoxicant tablets/capsules, and Rs.30,080 in drug money.
