Chandigarh, Nov. 22 -- Another heritage furniture designed by Swiss architect Pierre Jeanneret, the cousin of architect Le Corbusier, who planned Chandigarh, was illegally auctioned in Los Angeles, USA, it has been learnt. The furniture, a bedside table, went under the hammer for Rs.7 lakh, against the reserve price of Rs.5.31 lakh. The auction was conducted by an auction house, namely LAMA, USA, on November 20. Officials said the said item was from the MLA Flats building, Chandigarh, and had been illegally smuggled out of India. In another auction in France in September, as many as 16 heritage items, all designed by Swiss architect Pierre Jeanneret, were auctioned for Rs.3.93 crore. These included a pair of easy chairs, a periodical bookcase, a demountable desk, a pair of writing desk chairs, a demountable daybed, a bench, a dining table, a storage unit, a set of three stools, a fireside sofa among others. On July 17, a file rack and a pair of bedside tables, also designed by Jeanneret, were auctioned for Rs.18.56 lakh in Los Angeles, USA....
