Panchkula, Nov. 23 -- The crime branch team of the Panchkula police has arrested a jeweller for allegedly purchasing stolen gold ornaments at low prices, said assistant commissioner of police (ACP) crime Arvind Kamboj on Saturday. The arrest was made following the disclosure by two accused held earlier in the case. The case dates back to January 2. The complainant told police that his family was out due to some work and when they returned home they found their locks broken and jewellery, cash were missing. Following which a complaint was filed at Sector 10 police post. After investigation a case was registered at Sector-5 police station, said ACP Kamboj During investigation, two accused, Sandeep Kumar, alias Sanju, and Jagjit Singh, alias Jagga, both residents of Ambala, were arrested on November 3. During their four-day police remand, they confirmed the crime and helped the police recover Rs.20 thousand in cash. They further disclosed that they sold the gold jewellery to another Ambala resident Vinay Verma. Following this lead, the police arrested Vinay, who is also a jeweller, on November 17 and took him on a two-day police remand and stolen ornaments were recovered, including a gold necklace, two gold earrings, one gold pendant, and four gold rings. Incharge of Sector 19 crime branch Mukesh Saini said that the arrested jeweller, Vinay Verma, has his shop in Ambala Cantt. The police said that under BNS Section 317, the purchase, possession, or concealment of stolen property from theft or dacoity carries a provision for life imprisonment and a fine. The deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Crime issued a warning to shopkeepers, jewellers, and those trading in second-hand goods on online/offline platforms to strictly refrain from buying or selling any article without valid documentation proof....
