New Delhi, Jan. 20 -- TVK chief Vijay on Monday told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths that his party had taken all the necessary permissions from the district administration for his political rally in Karur district of Tamil Nadu, according to officials familiar with the matter. The actor-politician had also blamed the state administration officials and police for the mismanagement, the officials said. Meanwhile, senior police officers, including S Davidson Devasirvatham, who is currently director general of police (armed police), and others, questioned over the last couple of weeks, have told the CBI that "there were enough security and other arrangements in place at the rally but the crowd turnout far exceeded expectations", said an officer, on condition of anonymity. The federal anti-corruption agency questioned Vijay for the second time in connection with the stampede that occurred on September 27, 2025, in Karur during a political rally organised by TVK. The event, which drew a massive crowd at the designated venue, turned chaotic, resulting in the deaths of at least 41 people and injuring many others. CBI took over the probe on October 26.
