All coast guard officers can retire at 60: HC
New Delhi, Nov. 25 -- The Delhi high court on Monday struck down provisions of the Coast Guard (General) Rules, 1986 that prescribed varying retirement ages based on rank and held that a uniform superannuation age of 60 would apply to all Coast Guard officers, irrespective of rank.
A bench of justices C Hari Shankar and Om Prakash Shukla quashed Rules 20(1) and 20(2), which stipulated that officers up to the rank of Commandant would retire at 57, while those above that rank would superannuate at 60. The bench in its ruling said that the same was unconstitutional and unsupported by rational justification.
The court passed the order while dealing with the petitions filed by retired officers of the coast guard, who were in service during the filing of the petitions in 2024.
