AI use of actors' identity must be paid for, says Manoj

rowing concerns around the use of artificial intelligence are increasingly impacting the film industry, with several actors moving court to protect their personality rights.
At the International Film Festival of Delhi (IFFD) 2026 on Friday, actor Manoj Bajpayee spoke about the issue, stressing that any use of an artiste's identity or work must come with due compensation and respect.
"Agar humari cheez use karenge, toh paise humko denge. Humse judi koi bhi cheez agar aap upyog karenge, toh uska moolya dena padega. Main 32 saal se kaam kar raha hoon. credibility khud banate hain, aur agar uska koi use karega, toh rights ke hisaab se paisa dena padega," he said.
Bajpayee added that actors build their credibility over years of work, and unauthorised use of their likeness undermines that effort. In recent months, several actors, including Kajol, Shatrughan Sinha, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan, have sought legal protection against the misuse of AI-generated images and videos.
