AI flight aborts takeoff due to 'technical issue'
New Delhi, Aug. 1 -- A London-bound Air India Dreamliner aircraft aborted takeoff at Delhi's Indira Gandhi international airport (IGI) airport on Thursday due to a suspected technical issue, prompting precautionary action by the crew.
"Flight AI2017, operating from Delhi to London on July 31, returned to the bay due to a suspected technical issue," a statement from the airline read.
"The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the takeoff run following standard operating procedures and brought the aircraft back for precautionary checks," the statement read.
According to Flightradar24, a flight tracking website, the aircraft assigned for the flight was a Boeing 787-9.
To ensure passengers continue their journey with minimal disruption, the airline said it was arranging another aircraft.
"An alternative aircraft is being deployed to fly the passengers to London at the earliest. Our ground staff is extending all support and care to the guests to minimise inconvenience caused due to this unexpected delay," the statement said.

The incident comes amid a series of technical issues involving Air India aircraft that have been detected in the recent weeks.
These issues have also drawn the attention of the aviation regulator- the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
On June 12, Air India's Dreamliner Boeing 787-8 plane en route to London Gatwick crashed into a building soon after take off from Ahmedabad, killing 260 people.
Earlier this month, aviation watchdog DGCA came across around 100 violations and observations related to Air India's training, the crew's rest and duty period norms, and airfield qualification, among others....
