Agra-Amritsar tourist bus catches fire on Zirakpur flyover, no casualty
Mohali, Nov. 16 -- A tourist bus travelling from Agra to Amritsar caught fire early Saturday morning on the Zirakpur flyover, but all 30 passengers were safely evacuated without injuries.
The incident took place around 4.30 am when most passengers were asleep.
As per information, on reaching the Singhpura bridge, the driver noticed smoke coming from the engine area and quickly pulled over to the side of the flyover.
After evacuating all passengers, along with their belongings, the driver informed the fire department. In the meantime, some pedestrians and commuters, who had also noticed the smoke and flames, also alerted fire officials.
Fire teams from Zirakpur and Dera Bassi were rushed to the spot. In all five fire tenders were pressed into action and the blaze was brought under control within 45 minutes.
Fire officials said the exact cause of the fire is not yet known though preliminary technical inspection hinted at a possible short-circuit or mechanical fault.
After the situation stabilised, the passengers were shifted to another vehicle for their journey to Amritsar....
