India, May 23 -- Athlete Shaili Singh is still riding the high of her 6.64 metre jump at the National Federation Senior Athletics Championships held in Kochi (Kerala) in April - a jump that broke a 23-year-old record. "I was told of the record just a few hours before (the event), so it was in my mind," shares the 21-year-old. Interestingly, the former record holder is Shaili's coach and mentor, Anju Bobby George. "Anju ma'am came to me, congratulated me, of course, but said I could do even better," she adds. Her personal best stands at 6.76 metres, and she hopes to break the national record of 6.83 metres held by her mentor. "I got the silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championship last time. This time, I'll turn the colour from silver to gold," she says, adding that her ambitions extend beyond Asia: "World Championship as well. I'm hoping to qualify directly and take a good range, so that I can compete with the world's best 10 jumpers. I'm positive about doing well." Anju also expresses pride at Shaili's feat: "Watching her grow has been like witnessing the next chapter of Indian athletics unfold. I couldn't be prouder to pass the torch to someone so dedicated and gifted."...
