After 5-yr-old's murder, protest held against migrants workers
Hoshiarpur, Sept. 12 -- The murder of a five-year-old boy in the city on Wednesday by a migrant worker sparked a furore among locals who held a massive demonstration against what they cited as unchecked migration from other states.
The protest was organised at the civil hospital where a postmortem examination was to be conducted.
The protesters said the undocumented migrants should be banished from the state.
The accused, who allegedly sodomised and killed the boy after abducting him from New Deep Nagar locality, did not possess any identity card. A few others who worked along with him in the vegetable market, when questioned by the police, were also found having no identity proof.
The victim's father alleged that the government's mild approach towards illegal migrants cost him his son. The gathering also took to task city mayor Surinder Kumar who had come to offer sympathy to the aggrieved family, over registration of unaccounted migrants as voters. The mayor assured that he would take up the matter with the administration and press for identification of the migrants.
Meanwhile, accused Nanke Yadav, a native of Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh, was produced in a court that sent him to police remand for two days. Deputy superintendent of police Dev Dutt Sharma said the accused's antecedents would be verified from the UP Police....
