Accused shot dead in exchange of fire: Cops
LUCKNOW, May 5 -- A 19-year-old man who allegedly killed a woman and her four children in Miranpur on Saturday was shot dead in an exchange of fire with police near the Neveria Bypass early Monday. Two police personnel were also injured in the gunfight.
The suspect, identified as Aamir, lived around 400 metres from the victims' house and wanted to marry 34-year-old Ghaziya Khatun for her property, police said. The victims, including Khatun and her four children, had been living in Saudi Arabia for four years before recently returning to Uttar Pradesh. The murders took place within the limits of Akbarpur Kotwali, they added.
Superintendent of Police Prachi Singh said a tip-off led police to lay a trap near the bypass. "Aamir was spotted and signalled to stop. However, he fled on a motorcycle and a chase ensued. He soon lost balance of the bike, fell on the road, and opened fire at the police team," she said. "In retaliatory firing, Aamir sustained a bullet injury to the chest. He was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. During the gunfight, an SOG in-charge's bulletproof jacket was hit, while a sub-inspector and a constable sustained injuries. They are currently stable," Singh added.
Police had initially suspected Khatun when the children's bodies were found on May 2, but her body was later recovered from a nearby drain. CCTV analysis led investigators to Aamir, who had allegedly hidden Khatun's body in a drain 200 metres from her house to mislead the probe....
