accidents on film sets: What's going on?
India, June 17 -- On Sunday, a fatal accident was narrowly averted on the sets of Rishab Shetty-starrer Kantara Chapter 1, when a boat carrying 30 crew members capsized mid-shoot in Karnataka's Mani reservoir. On Friday, helium balloons caught fire in a freak accident on the sets of Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa's upcoming film. Two days before that (June 11), the set of The India House, produced by Ram Charan and starring Nikhil Siddhartha, flooded after a water tank burst.
Suresh Shyamlal Gupta, president of AICWA, reveals that basic measures like visits from safety officers and multiple entry-exit points are not observed, adding that since 2021, "producers, production houses, and channels have stopped union members from coming to film sets", allegedly to prevent such concerns getting highlighted.
Jai Shankar Singh, a camera attendant, adds, "Heavy equipment isn't maintained, cables aren't serviced. We often shoot for 16-18 hours but there's no time for food breaks and no provisions for rain. No one conducts inspections - everything is Ram bharose."...
