Amritsar, Dec. 18 -- The AAP prevailed in Majha region though it faced a tough challenge from the Congress and the SAD in some parts of Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Pathankot districts. In Amritsar's Attari block, AAP, with eight seats, lagged behind the SAD (9). The Congress bagged three seats. In the Verka block, AAP secured 14 seats, Congress 6 and SAD 3. Of 25 zones in Rayya block, 13 went to AAP and six each to the Congress and the SAD. All nine seats of Ramdas panchayat samiti were bagged by AAP, while it secured 12 of total 13 seats of Ajnala samiti. The ruling party toppled SAD on home turf of Bikram Singh Majithia, currently in jail. Majithia never faced any kind of loss in elections in its home turf Majitha, from where he was elected as MLA three times, and now it is represented by his wife Ganieve Kaur Majithia. In 24 zila parishad zones of Amritsar, AAP was leading in majority of the seats till the filing of this report. In Sujanpur block of Pathankot, the BJP toppled the ruling party as it won eight of the 15 seats. AAP bagged seven. The ruling party won 12 zones of Bamyal panchayat samiti while the Congress secured three. In Pathankot block, which is home turf of BJP MLA and state working president Ashwani Sharma, AAP, Congress and BJP won five seats each. AAP won 18 zones of Bhoa, while Congress won four and BJP one. In Pathankot's Dhar Kalan block, AAP and BJP won seven seats each and Congress one. In Tarn Taran, AAP performed well in zila parishad polls as it bagged 17 of 20 seats. In block samiti, most of the AAP candidates were declared winners unopposed. In Khadoor Sahib assembly segment that has three blocks, the Khadoor Sahib block saw Congress winning 10 seats, SAD eight and AAP six. In Chohla Sahib block, AAP could win only three of 16 seats as the Congress won seven zones, while the SAD bagged five. In Nagoke, Congress won eight, AAP five and SAD 1. In Patti block, AAP secured 34 seats out of 36 while two were won by SAD. The ruling party also made a clean sweep in Khemkaran. All 41 seats of Bhikhiwind and Valtoha panchayat samitis and five zila parishad seats were won by the ruling party candidates. AAP's victory run continued in Gurdaspur block where it won 19 of total 21 seats, while in Batala it secured 13 of 15 seats. All 16 zones of Kalanaur block samiti were won by AAP. The ruling party won 11 seats of Dhariwal block, Congress five and SAD one. In Qadian, the home turf of the leader of opposition in the state assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, AAP secured 10 seats, Congress five, SAD one and an independent one.
