9.6 mn 'bogus' voters in poll rolls, says MNS chief; Oppn to stage stir
Mumbai, Oct. 20 -- Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday alleged that 9.6 million voters have been added to the state's electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming local body elections, even as the Opposition parties announced its plans to organise a joint rally against the Election Commission of India (ECI) on November 1 to press for their demands to remove the "bogus" voters.
Addressing MNS workers, Thackeray said it would be an "insult to voters" if local body polls are held with manipulated poll rolls. "An attempt is being made to finish regional parties. I have learnt that 9.6 million fake voters have been enrolled in the voters' list in Maharashtra for the upcoming polls. They had also done this during the state polls as well," he said.
Later, Opposition parties, including MNS, Shiv Sena (UBT), Nationalist Congress Party (SP) and the Congress, announced that they would protest against the alleged rigging of voter lists.
"We will have to take to the streets... On November 1, all parties will launch a massive march in Mumbai against the ECI... MVA and opposition leaders....
