Meerut, Nov. 29 -- Seven members of a family, including a four-year-old boy, died after an overloaded dumper lost control and overturned onto their car near the Delhi-Dehradun expressway in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, a police officer said, adding that the dumper's driver was allegedly intoxicated and fled the scene immediately after the accident. Efforts are underway to arrest him, he added. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and directed officials to expedite relief work. He also directed that the injured receive proper treatment. According to police, the family was from Sayyad Majra village and was travelling to Gangoh to attend a funeral. The car had barely reached the expressway when a speeding dumper, overloaded with gravel overturned onto the car, completely crushing it. The deceased were identified as Mahendra Saini's wife Rani Devi (59), his son Sandeep Saini (24), daughter Julie (27), Julie's four-year-old son, her husband Shekhar Kumar (28), Mahendra's sister-in-law's son Vipin (20), a resident of Mohaddipur; and a relative, Raju Saini (27). While six of them were killed on the spot, Sandeep Saini died at district hospital, officials said. Saharanpur superintendent of police (SP) Vyom Bindal confirmed the deaths and informed bodies were sent for post-mortem. "Efforts are being made to arrest the absconding driver," he said. Following the accident, the enraged villagers blocked the road demanding financial assistance and relief from the chief minister's fund. Additional district magistrate (ADM) Santosh Bahadur Singh said: "We assured the crowd that their demands would be conveyed to the higher authorities, after which the road was cleared." Minister of state Jaswant Saini said: "The victims' families will be provided benefits under the Farmers' Accident Insurance Scheme, and we will extend maximum possible support."...
