Raipur, Nov. 12 -- Security personnel killed six Maoists in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Tuesday, police said, taking the toll of Naxals killed this year in operations across the state to 259. Following inputs about the presence of senior Maoists in the Indravati National Park, a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Bijapur and Dantewada districts and a Special Task Force (STF) launched an anti-Naxal operation in the area on Monday morning. The gunfight began around 10 am and continued intermittently for several hours, said Jitendra Yadav, superintendent of police, Bijapur. "After the encounter, security forces recovered bodies of six Maoists along with automatic weapons, including an INSAS rifle, Sten guns, a .303 rifle, and explosives," Yadav said.
