Jammu, July 13 -- Five people were killed and one person was injured on Friday evening when their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a gorge at Ukhral Pogal Paristan in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, police said. "The Tata Sumo fell into a 600-foot-deep gorge near Madina Masjid hill on the Senabati link road in the Paristan area of Ukhral around 8 pm on Friday," a police officer said. Four people - Mohammad Rafiq Gujjar, Tauqeer Ahmed Bhat, Abdul Latief Gujjar, Aijaz Ahmed Bhat, and Shakeel Ahmad - died on the spot. Two injured passengers were taken to GMC Anantnag. "One of them was later shifted to SKIMS at Soura in Srinagar, where he died while receiving treatment," the officer further added. The district administration has announced an assistance of Rs.1 lakh each for the kin of deceased, and Rs.25,000 for the injured. Ramban district commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan expressed condolences on X, stating, "District administration Ramban expresses profound grief over the tragic loss of four precious lives in a road accident at Ukhral Senabati. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured." Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha also expressed condolences, saying, "Saddened to learn about the loss of lives due to the tragic road accident in Ramban. I pray for a speedy recovery of those injured in the accident." Two persons, including a tourist were killed, while two were injured after the vehicle they were travelling in rolled down in Shimla's Nerwa district on Saturday night, police officials said. A child is also feared swept away. The deceased have been identified as Kumar Suchi, of Nerwa and Gurmel Lal, of Nawanshahr (Punjab), the officials said. While injured have been identified as Balwinder, wife of Harbans Lal, from Badmajra in Nawanshahr and Keshav Kumar, son of Narendra Kumar, from Banga, also in Nawanshahr (Punjab). The injured have been shifted to Nerwa hospital. According to the police, the accident took place around 7 pm, approximately 13-14 kilometers from Nerwa on the Nerwa-Fedzpul main road, between Tandori and Bathal, involving a Scorpio bearing Punjab number. There were four adults and one boy aged around 8 to 10 years in the vehicle. The vehicle fell approximately 80-100 metres off the road directly into the middle of the Shalvi River. Balwinder's son, who is said to be 8 to 10 years old, went missing after the accident. The search is underway to find the child, said police officials....
