Chandigarh, Nov. 7 -- Five children were injured after an auto-rickshaw transporting them to school rammed into a car on Maloya Road around 7.30 am on Thursday. The impact of the collision caused the auto-rickshaw to overturn, resulting in injuries to the children on-board. Police said one child suffered a fracture in the hand, while the remaining sustained minor injuries and were discharged after first-aid. The Maruti Suzuki Alto, being driven by Jeevan Lal, a resident of Maloya Colony, was also severely damaged. Children's screams filled the air as the auto-rickshaw overturned. Onlookers rescued the injured from the vehicle and alerted the police. A team from the Maloya police station responded to the scene and shifted the children to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, for treatment. According to police, the injured students were identified as Hardik, Aarushi, Diya, Anshu and Aarhan, all residents of Maloya. Preliminary investigation revealed that the auto-rickshaw driver, Santosh, a resident of Maloya's Small Flats, was driving at high speed and in a negligent manner.
