5 detained 'outsiders' banned from campus till end of polls
Chandigarh, Aug. 9 -- The five outsiders, who had been taken into preventive detention by the UT police from outside Law Auditorium in Panjab University (PU) on Wednesday evening, were presented before the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) on Thursday. Further, they have been banned from entering PU till the election season is underway.
As per police officials, the five were made to sign an undertaking that they will not visit PU again till the Panjab University Campus Students Elections (PUCSC) elections are conducted. They were detained for 24 hours under Sections 126 (security for keeping peace in other cases) and Section 170 (arrest to prevent commission of cognisable offences) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. They were let off after this.
Interestingly, one of the five outsiders, Braham Dutt is out on bail in a 2020 case where 17 shots were fired at liquor baron ArvindSingla's brother's house in Sector 33.
Police investigations had revealed that this attack was planned by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who was lodged in Bharatpur jail in Rajasthan at the time. htc...
