5 arrested for stealing opioid substitute tablets
Sangrur, March 7 -- Three days after over 20,000 buprenorphine tablets, used in opioid substitution therapy, and a computer were stolen from the sub-divisional hospital in Dhuri on Tuesday, police arrested five accused on Friday.
They were identified as Varinder Singh, Anees Thakur, Sonu Chopra, Hardeep Singh and Parveen Kumar, all residents of Dhuri. A total of 18,560 tablets and a computer system, which were stolen from the hospital, along with a motorcycle were recovered from them. Sangrur SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal said on the intervening night of March 2 and 3, unidentified persons stole 10,130 tablets of buprenorphine (2 mg) and 10,142 tablets of buprenorphine (0.4 mg), totaling 20,272 tablets, from the OOAT Centre at the civil hospital in Dhuri.
