Hoshiarpur, Dec. 19 -- A 40-year-old motorcycle mechanic was shot dead by bike-borne assailants in Hoshiarpur's Kaloya village on Thursday. This comes just two days after a 22-year-old man in the district's Kang Mai village, near Hariana town, was shot dead in a similar fashion. The reasons behind both killings have not yet been established. The victim in the latest incident has been identified as Baljit Singh, a resident of Kandhala Sheikhan village. As per information, Singh had stopped at a shop to buy some essentials for his child when some unidentified men arrived on a bike and fired at him. His child, who was waiting in the car parked nearby, was a witness to the incident. The victim was rushed to the Tanda hospital, where he succumbed to his bullet injuries. Tanda deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Davinder Singh said a case of murder has been registered and the police are collecting closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage and other evidence to nab the culprits....
