4 kidnap Kharar youth for Rs.1-lakh ransom, arrested
Mohali, April 3 -- Police have arrested four people, including a woman, for kidnapping a Kharar youth and demanding Rs.1 lakh ransom.
According to police, the case came to light when the victim, forced by the accused, called his friends asking for the ransom money, following which his friends alerted the police. The victim, Avidesh Singh Rajput, is a resident of GTB Nagar in Kharar.
In his complaint, he stated that on March 30, he had gone to visit a friend in Kharar. Around 10 am, when he stepped out to a nearby market, three unidentified men picked a quarrel with him and forcibly pushed him into a red Maruti car (CH01 V 2907).
The accused allegedly threatened to kill him and demanded a ransom of Rs.1 lakh. During captivity, they coerced the victim into arranging money, following which Rs.5,000 was transferred by his friends into the account of an unidentified woman.
Based on the complaint, Kharar police booked unidentified people on March 31 under sections 308 (5), 140 (3), 115 (2), 191 (3), 190, 351 (2), 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
During the probe, police first arrested Tanveer Kaur, a resident of Sector 56, Chandigarh, and rescued the youth from her captivity. Police also recovered the car used in the crime along with a kirpan allegedly used to threaten the victim. Her interrogation led to the identification of other accused, including Jaspreet Singh of Krishnapura village, Uday Sharma, Rachpal Singh, Prince Kumar and Lovepreet Singh of Mohali.
Subsequently, Lovepreet Singh, Uday Sharma and Prince Kumar were arrested on April 1. Police said the accused will be produced before a local court and their remand will be sought for further questioning. The remaining accused are absconding. Further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and identify any additional links.
