Amritsar, May 12 -- The crime investigation agency (CIA) wing of Amritsar police on Saturday arrested three men for allegedly helping a gangster escape from police custody.

The accused were identified as Samsher Singh, 20 and Akashdeep, 21, of Majitha road area and Kuldeep Singh, 30, of Kot Mitt Singh area in Amritsar.

Gangster Gurbhej Singh of Sultanwind village in Amritsar, who was lodged in Kapurthala jail in an attempt to murder case, was helped by the accused in his escape during his medical check-up in Kapurthala civil hospital, police said.

The arrested men were also wanted in a loot case, in which they robbed a wine shop worker of 35,000 after opening fire in Amritsar.
