Panchkula, May 3 -- Police have arrested three men for assaulting two students of Government Industrial Training Institute, Panchkula, and subjecting them to casteist slurs. The accused, who are in their 20s, have been identified as Sahil and Mohit from Mauli village, besides Aryan from Barwala. The victims, who are residents of Panchkula, reported being attacked near the Sector-5 bus stand on Thursday. According to the complaint, the altercation stemmed from a video shared by one of the victims on Instagram, depicting members of the scheduled caste (SC) community at the Ravidas temple. The accused demanded the video's removal. Upon the victims' refusal to do so, the assailants not only physically assaulted them but also subjected them to casteist slurs. Police responded to the scene and apprehended the accused from Barwala. They were sent to judicial custody. The three face charges under Sections 115, 190, 191(2), and 351(2) of the BNS. Sahil and Aryan have additionally been charged under Sections 3(1)(a) and 3(2)(va) of the SC/ST Act.
