28-yr-old man held for raping French tourist
Udaipur, June 26 -- A 28-year-old man, who allegedly raped a 30-year-old French tourist in Udaipur district on Monday, was arrested from his residence in Chittorgarh on Wednesday, police said.
Udaipur superintendent of police (SP) Yogesh Goyal said, "The accused Pushparaj Ojha alias Siddharth was arrested from his residence in Chittorgarh on Wednesday. He works in an event management company that shoots advertisements for various brands. He fled Udaipur on Tuesday morning after he allegedly committed the crime."
Police said that the incident took place on Monday night, hours after the woman met the accused during a party at a cafe in Badgaon area of Udaipur.
In her complaint, the woman said she came to Udaipur on June 22 and went to the The Greek Farm cafe for dinner on Monday. "A bit later, a man came to our table and invited me to step outside for a smoke. Then took me along with him on a drive and took me to his apartment," the woman said in her complaint, a copy of which was seen by HT.
She said the accused began touching her inappropriately before raping her. On Tuesday, the accused drove her back to her hotel. "She told her two friends about the incident. As she fell sick, they rushed her to a private hospital and approached police," Badgaon police SHO Pooran Singh said. An FIR was lodged against Ojha under section 64 (1) (rape) of BNS.
However, after his arrest, Ojha said he was "honey-trapped".
Speaking to reporters, he said, "I didn't rape her. I am being honey-trapped. It's a conspiracy that has been hatched against me by some of the people in the event management company. I was going to surrender when police apprehended me on Wednesday."...
