Dehradun, Oct. 27 -- A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his friend to death late on Saturday night after an argument near a liquor store in Muni Ki Reti area of Rishikesh in Tehri Garhwal district, police officers aware of the details said on Sunday. Police identified the accused as Akshay Thakur and the deceased as 28-year-old Ajendra Kandari. The two allegedly consumed alcohol together before a heated argument broke out between them and Akshay stabbed Ajendra with a knife multiple times in a fit of rage, according to police. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tehri Garhwal Ayush Agarwal said, "We have registered the FIR and arrested the accused. The post-mortem has been completed." Locals rushed Ajendra to a private hospital, from where he was referred to AIIMS, Rishikesh, where he was declared dead on arrival, police said adding that the family members of the deceased initially refused to allow the post-mortem examination but later agreed and the body was sent for autopsy. The deceased's father Ramesh Kandari filed a complaint against Akshay Thakur and one Sonu alleging his involvement in the crime as well. Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against Akshay and Sonu under sections 103(1) (murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS. The incident triggered outrage among locals, who blocked traffic in protest and demanded the closure of the liquor store where the crime took place.
