Ludhiana, Dec. 21 -- Over 24 lakh Indian students went abroad for higher education between 2022 and 2024, the Union ministry of education informed the Rajya Sabha on December 17. Replying to a starred question by Balbir Singh Seechewal, Rajya Sabha member from Punjab in the Upper House, education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that while the ministry does not maintain its own database on Indian students studying overseas, figures shared by the Bureau of Immigration provide a clear picture of the trend. As per the figures placed before Parliament, 7,50,365 Indians went abroad for studies in 2022. The number rose sharply to 8,94,783 in 2023. In 2024, the figure stood at 7,60,073.
