Bathinda, Dec. 30 -- The Bathinda district police on Monday arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly murdering his wife. The body of the deceased, identified as Ritika Goyal, 23, was found on Sunday in the Thandi Sadak area, with her throat slit. Police officials said the accused, Sahil Kumar, allegedly committed the crime on Saturday evening and attempted to implicate the deceased's former acquaintance, Gurjit Singh. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amneet Kondal said the accused was apprehended on the basis of electronic and human intelligence. "The couple shared a strained relationship as Sahil suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair with his friend. Sahil slit his wife's throat at an isolated place on Saturday evening and concocted a story about Ritika's going missing," the SSP said. She added that a murder case was registered on the complaint of the deceased's mother, Seema Goyal, against unidentified persons. "Multiple police teams were formed, and the accused was held within 24 hours of the recovery of the body. The knife used in the crime has been taken into custody. Sahil's mobile phone was also recovered, and it was found that he had searched for information related to repentance after murder, mobile phone signal tracking, etc," the SSP added. A 17-year-old youth was shot dead by unidentified assailants, police said on Monday. Veer Singh alias Veeru, a resident of Sanjay Colony, was working at a local salon. His family members alleged that some youths from the same neighbourhood called him out of his house on Sunday evening and took him along. Later, he was allegedly shot dead. Veeru's father, Pal, said that his son used to return home daily after work and had no known enmity. He alleged that the youths who took his son away were drug addicts and were responsible for his death. The police said some suspects have been detained for questioning and further investigation is underway. The accused would be arrested soon, they said....
