Raipur, Nov. 29 -- A total of 21 Maoists, including the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone spokesperson, have surrendered in two states over the last 24 hours. On Thursday, the MMC spokesperson had written a letter to chief ministers of all three states, saying that his cadres were ready to join the mainstream by January 1, if they are offered security guarantees and a transparent rehabilitation process. On Friday, 11 Maoists, including Special Zonal Committee Member Anant, also known as Vikas, Anil and Navjot Nagpure, surrendered before the Gondia district police in Maharashtra on Friday, officials said, adding that Anant's real name is Vinod Sayanna. Sayanna is regarded as one of the most significant figures to surrender from the MMC zone in recent years, the official added. The surrender took place in the presence of deputy inspector general of police, Gadchiroli Range, Ankit Goyal, during a special camp in Nagpur. All eleven cadres arrived in Maoist uniforms, and the Maharashtra government announced a reward of Rs.89 lakh for the group, the official said. On Thursday, Anant wrote to chief ministers of the three states, expressing willingness to return to the mainstream, but underlined that previous rehabilitation efforts "remained on paper" and failed to protect surrendered Maoists and their families. Meanwhile, on Thursday, 10 Maoists, including a senior member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, surrendered before the police in Chhattisgarh's Jagdalpur, an officer familiar with the matter said on Friday. The developments came amid heightened anti-Maoist operations as the Union government has set a March 31, 2026, deadline for ending the Left-wing insurgency. Security forces have killed over 270 Maoists over the past year in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. At least 1,225 have surrendered, and 680 have been arrested. The killing of Maoist chief Nambala Kesava Rao, alias Basavaraju, on May 20 marked the most significant success against the Left-wing insurgency in years....
