Dehradun, Jan. 4 -- Two people were killed and a person was injured after the car they were travelling in fell into a 300-metre-deep gorge in Pithoragarh district on Saturday, officials familiar with the matter said. The deceased were identified as Hayat Singh, a resident of Sat Siling, and Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Panda village, both in Pithoragarh district. Their bodies were retrieved by personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), officials said. SDRF Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi said that the Disaster Control Room in Pithoragarh received information on Saturday about an Alto car falling into a gorge at a place called Ranbichul. He added that an SDRF team led by sub-inspector Prem Upradi from the Pithoragarh post was immediately dispatched to carry out rescue and relief operations. Upon reaching the site, the team learned that three people were travelling in the vehicle, of whom one injured person had already been rescued by local residents and taken to a hospital. "Despite challenging geographical conditions, the SDRF team retrieved the bodies from a gorge approximately 300-metre-deep and carried them around 1.5 kilometres on foot through difficult mountainous and river terrain before reaching the road," Yaduvanshi said....
