Lucknow, May 24 -- A special CBI court on Friday sentenced to life Ram Niranjan Kol alias Raja Kolandar and his accomplice Bachh Raj Kol in double murder case of 2000, rejecting the prosecution's request of death penalty saying that the case did not meet the "rarest of rare" criteria. The two were convicted on May 19 for the abduction and murder of Rae Bareli-based businessman Manoj Kumar Singh and his driver Ravi Srivastava in 2000. Pronouncing the verdict on Friday, the court also imposed a penalty of Rs.2.5 lakh each on the two accused.
